We’re also a leading supplier to the UK Government’s Building Schools for the Future programme, – significant parts of which are being built using Private Finance. Other PPP projects that are currently in the construction phase include the Allenby Connaught project, where we are building new Army Accommodation across the South of England, the Royal School of Military Engineering, and the new Joint Permanent Headquarters, all of which are for the UK Ministry of Defence.

Our strong construction capability also enables us to provide integrated solutions for our support services customers. For example, at Catterick Garrison – one of the thousands of UK Ministry of Defence locations where we provide integrated facilities management services – we’ve also carried out extensive building work.

In addition, Carillion also provides construction services for a small number of key long-term customers on a highly selective basis. Right now we’re building the giant media centre for the London 2012 Olympics. It will be home to around 20,000 journalists and media staff who’ll be reporting and broadcasting the games to billions of people around the globe. The building’s so big that it could comfortably hold up to 10 jumbo jets!

Sustainability is a key consideration in all of our projects, and we’ve led the industry in introducing more sustainable designs and construction methods for our buildings.

In Canada, much of our construction work also relates to PPP projects, particularly in the health sector, where we are currently building our fifth new hospital. Here again we also work closely with a select number of clients on key major projects – such as the extension and refurbishment of Toronto’s historic Union Station, which welcomes 65 million travellers every year.

We’re also helping to improve the transport infrastructure in both the UK and Canada with major road building projects on both sides of the Atlantic, and have considerable expertise and experience in modernising the UK’s rail network.
